Zuma sends well wishes to Muslim community

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has sent well wishes to the Muslim community celebrating Eid Milad-un-Nabi.

The community is celebrating the Prophet of Islam, who was born on the Islamic date of the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, which in the Islamic calendar is today.

"Today, the almost two billion followers of this great Prophet (Peace be upon him), including those who live in South Africa, will be commemorating this day, and I take this opportunity to wish them all well and may the day be a blessed one," Zuma said in a statement on Sunday.

Like the followers of all other religions in the country, the President said that Muslims too have made a positive contribution, and "there is space for that to continue".
