Youth day celebrations underway in Pretoria
Pretoria – Hundreds of young people have gathered at the Tshwane Events Centre in Pretoria to celebrate Youth Day.
This year marks 39 years since the June 16 1976 students uprisings and 21 years since South Africa attained its freedom and democracy.
The theme for this year’s youth month celebrations is “Youth Moving South Africa Forward”.
President Jacob Zuma, his deputy Cyril Ramaphosa and several ministers have arrived for the Youth Day celebrations.
President Zuma will be giving the keynote address at the event.
The Youth Day celebrations started with an inter-faith prayer session led by young religious leaders at Freedom Park and was followed by a Youth Walk from Freedom Park to the Tshwane Events Centre. –SANews.gov.za
