Work with SAPS to curb police killings

Pretoria – Cabinet has called on the public to work with the South African Police Service (SAPS) to arrest the perpetrators of police killings.

“Cabinet continues to condemn the senseless killing of police officers,” it said in a statement on Friday.

This follows an earlier call made by President Jacob Zuma for the public to work with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime and the creation of safer communities.

Police killings were underlined following the deaths of four members of the SAPS and one member of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) who was gruesomely killed at a shopping complex during an armed robbery.

The President said the police are the buffer between the community and criminals and all should work together to support the police in their work. He added that the work of the police was appreciated by all South Africans.

Cabinet on Friday said law-enforcement agencies are working round the clock to ensure all the perpetrators of these criminal acts are apprehended.

It further thanked the members of the public who contributed to the arrest of the three people linked to police killings. – SAnews.gov.za
