Pretoria – As Women’s Month draws to a close, Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, will honour 500 women military veterans and struggle veterans from across the Nelson Mandela Metro on Saturday.

“The event will recognise the sacrifices and role played by women in the struggle for freedom and equality,” the department said on Wednesday.

As a token of appreciation, all 500 women military and struggle veterans will receive blankets and various gifts.

“The main objective of the blanket handover ceremony will be to serve as a reminder to every woman that will be honoured on the day that their contribution to the liberation struggle was not in vain and that it shall never be forgotten.”

In order to align with the vision “to take the Defence Force to the people” the department will also use the event to hold a career exhibition.

The main objective of the career exhibition, targeting 1000 students from schools in and around Port Elizabeth, is to showcase career opportunities within the Defence Force.-SAnews.gov.za
