Pretoria – Water supply has been restored to all areas of Ekurhuleni, with residents in Klipfontein View reportedly starting to recieve water.

“All areas in Ekurhuleni have water. There are, however, localised water supply problems but their municipality is attending to them,” said Rand Water spokesperson, Justice Mohale in a statement released following a meeting held at the Central Depot on Sunday.

In Tshwane, Soshanguve (Blocks K, L and M), Itereleng, Blair Athol, Valhalla and Mnandi have water.

“The Brakfontein reservoir will be now be bypassed and the following areas will have water: Laudium, Erasmia, Rooihuiskraal, Kalafong hights, Mooiplats, Itereleng, The Reeds, Christoberg, Gerhardsville, Claudius and the remaining parts of Attridgeville,” said Mohale.

Parts of Ekurhuleni, the West Rand, Johannesburg and Tshwane have been affected by water shortages over the past two weeks.

The water shortage was caused by various factors, including power supply problems, faulty cables and the theft of electrical cables needed for the reservoirs to pump water.

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyane, and the leadership of Rand Water held a meeting on Friday and addressed the media on interventions to assist with the water shortages in Gauteng.

Among the interventions include the redistribution of water in affected areas, with hospitals and vulnerable institutions being prioritised.

Rand Water Chief Operating Officer, Sipho Mosai said that the utility’s reservoir levels were showing gradual signs of improvement.

He said that the situation could normalise in two weeks. – SAnews.gov.za
