Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma and his United States counterpart, President Donald Trump, have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the already strong bilateral relations between the two countries.

The two discussed this during a telephone conversation on Monday afternoon. The call was requested by the White House.

It was the first conversation between the two leaders since President Trump’s inauguration last month. President Zuma used the opportunity to congratulate President Trump on his election as the 45th President of the US.

The leaders also discussed the need to work together on global issues, especially in the quest for peace and stability in Africa.

Relations between two countries are solid, with about 600 US companies operating in South Africa.

It is reported that President Trump also made a call to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
