Pretoria - The three men, who were arrested for allegedly selling fraudulent Umalusi Senior Certificates, have been remanded in custody by the Botshabelo Magistrate’s Court.

The trio -- Joel Mpotle (38), Tebello Mohale (39) and Lefa Ntshasa (49) -- who appeared in court on Tuesday were arrested on 31 December 2016, by the Hawks Anti-Corruption and Crime Intelligence.

They were arrested after they sold a certificate to an undercover police officer for an amount of R3 000 at a Shopping Complex in Botshabelo.

“The operation was conducted after information was received that the suspects were constructing and selling Umalusi Senior Certificates,” Hawks Captain S’fiso Nyakane said on Wednesday.

Nyakane said investigations revealed that Mohale was previously convicted for five years and three years suspended for a similar offence.

The suspects will appear in the same court on Tuesday, 17 January 2017, for formal bail applications. – SAnews.gov.za
