Treasury asks for extension to table SAA statements

Friday, July 15, 2016

Pretoria - Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has asked Parliament to grant the South African Airways (SAA) a further extension to table its annual financial statements.

“The Minister of Finance has requested Parliament to grant an extension to 15 September 2016 for the tabling of the Annual Financial Statement (AFS) of SAA,” said National Treasury on Thursday.

The national carrier was due to table its financial statements on Friday, 15 July.

“SAA submitted an updated application for a going concern guarantee on 21 December 2015. SAA’s AFS cannot be finalised on a going concern basis until a decision has been taken on the guarantee application,” said National Treasury.

National Treasury said given the potential implication for the economy, the matter has required extensive and careful consideration.

The company’s AFSs will be tabled once they have been finalised, it said. – SAnews.gov.za
