Three escaped Kruger lions killed

Pretoria – The three escaped Kruger National Park (KNP) lions have been shot dead.

A farm owner in Mara Valley shot one lion and wounded another after the lions killed his cattle.

Abe Sibiya, the Head of Biodiversity at the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA), said a decision had to be taken to kill the other lions.

“Unfortunately after all efforts were made and the risk of having a wounded lion roaming around, a decision had to be taken to destroy them,” said Sibiya.

Sibiya said the MTPA and SANParks team worked under extremely challenging terrain during the operation, which made darting a difficult option. – SAnews.gov.za
