Pretoria - The three men arrested in connection with the rape, robbery and murder of a pensioner will appear in the Tiyani Magistrate’s Court today.

The three, aged between 24 and 29, robbed 83-year-old Mojaji Sebyene from Sereni village, just outside Elim.

Sebyene died on Sunday after she was brutally attacked on Saturday while she slept at home.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in Polokwane, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, the suspects forced their way into her room and demanded money.

“The two then dragged the pensioner to nearby bushes where they allegedly raped and assaulted her, before returning to her house and set it alight.”

She was found by neighbours, who immediately took her to hospital where she died on Sunday.

The three were arrested by police on Tuesday.
