Tax Ombud term of office extended

Pretoria - Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has extended the term of office of the Tax Ombud Judge Bernard Makgabo Ngoepe for a period of three years, commencing 1 October 2016.

“Judge Ngoepe has led the office with great distinction and integrity over the past three years. His impartiality and effectiveness has inspired confidence and trust in our tax system.

“The Minister wishes Judge Ngoepe everything of the best as they strengthen this vital institution,” said National Treasury on Tuesday.

The Office of the Tax Ombud was established in October 2013 to enhance the tax administration system. Until then, there was no independent redress channel for taxpayers, who had exhausted the normal South African Revenue Service (SARS) complaints mechanisms.

The office works specifically with taxpayers who have been unable to resolve a service, procedural or administrative complaint through the normal complaints management channels of the revenue service. – SAnews.gov.za
