Pretoria – Limpopo police have arrested three suspected rhino poachers at a private game farm in Alldays, just outside Makhado.

The suspects, aged between 41 and 36, were arrested recently, after police received information that a rhino had been poached inside the farm.

Police led by the members of the Hawks raced to the farm, surrounded it and after an extensive search the suspects were cornered and arrested in possession of two rhino horns, a .375 rifle and an axe.

Subsequent investigations have revealed that two of the suspects were South Africans and one was from Mozambique. A rhino was also found dead in the farm.

The three suspects appeared before the Makhado Magistrate’s Court on Monday. They faced charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, poaching of a rhino, possession of rhino horns and trespassing. – SAnews.gov.za
