Special funeral for Mkhwanazi

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has declared a Special Provincial Official Funeral for the late Riot Mkhwanazi, who passed away on Sunday.

The Presidency said Mkhwanazi was a renowned struggle veteran and the recipient of the Order of Mendi for bravery.

He was bestowed with the National Order for his excellent and vibrant contribution to the liberation of the people of South Africa.

“In 1963, he and President Zuma were arrested and both served ten years imprisonment on Robben Island,” said the Presidency.

President Zuma has ordered that the National Flag be flown at half-mast at every flag station in KwaZulu-Natal on the day of the funeral, this Sunday.

“President Zuma has once again conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the Mkhwanazi family. Details of the funeral will be communicated by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government.” - SAnews.gov.za
