Soweto labour centre closed due to break-in

Tuesday, July 26, 2016

Pretoria – The Soweto Labour Centre situated at No 2 Khumalo main road, Orlando West, is closed, due to a break-in that took place last night.

During the break-in, extensive damage was caused at the entrance glass doors, security doors and IT cabling and ten fujitsu computers were stolen.

This has led to the closure of the centre until further notice. Clients are advised to go to Roodepoort and Krugersdorp centres for services.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the burglary and theft of computers at our service delivery point. Our offices are there to serve the public, most notably the vulnerable workers who can only access their Unemployment Insurance benefits, Compensation fund claims or report ill treatment by employers,” the department said in a statement.

“We appeal to members of the public not to buy stolen property and to report to the nearest Police station anyone who can be found trying to sell this equipment,” the department said.

The incident has been reported to the police and investigations are underway. – SAnews.gov.za
