Soul Brothers' lead singer dies

Pretoria - Lead singer of mbhaqanga group Soul Brothers, David Masondo, has passed away.
 
He passed away at the Garden City Hospital, in Johannesburg, on Sunday, at the age of 67, after being in hospital for two months. Masondo was born in Hammersdale in Durban.

KwaZulu-Natal Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha has conveyed her condolences to the family, saying he had a memorable music career.

“We are deeply saddened by the untimely death of this music legend. Masondo was one of the great musicians from KwaZulu-Natal who made his mark both locally and abroad,” Sibhidla-Saphetha.

Since its inception, his group produced more than 30 albums. MEC Sibhidla-Saphetha said this was a clear indication that he was passionate and committed to his craft.

“We must find solace in the fact that Masondo left a legacy of which we are all proud. Our hearts go out to his family, members of the Soul Brothers and the entire music industry.” – SAnews.gov.za
