Pretoria – Social Development Deputy Minister, Hendrietta Bogopane – Zulu, will lend her support to the PinkDrive team and join its stand at the Comrades Marathon Expo this weekend.
The expo is part of the “ultimate human race”, the Comrades Marathon, which will start at Durban City Hall and end in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday.
The PinkDrive Comrades Expo will be at Durban Exhibition Centre, Walnut Road in stand number: A132-135 from 28 - 30 May 2015.
Free clinical breast examinations, as well as free prostate specific antigen testing, will be done for the first 50 men visiting the stand.
Recently, Comrades Marathon race directors announced that PinkDrive will be part of the Amabeadibeadi Charities for the next three years. During the event, athletes have the opportunity to “Race4Charity” and raise much needed funds for the charities.
This year, PinkDrive has a total of 122 runners of which 91 runners are in the “Race4Charity” batch. The athletes have raised R5000 or more to fight breast cancer.
To date, R998 599 has been raised for PinkDrive with Carel Nolte top donor in the “Race4Charity” campaign.
Deputy Minister Bogopane – Zulu encouraged all to get behind PinkDrive to keep women and men alive by fighting cancer.
CEO and Founder of PinkDrive, Noelene Kotschan, said PinkDrive was honoured to be part of this iconic race, especially this year.
“PinkDrive is ecstatic and privileged to be part of the 90th Comrades Marathon this year. We are thankful all athletes who raise awareness and funds for our worthy cause. You are helping PinkDrive to ‘outpace’ cancer,” said Kotschan.
She added that even if a person is not running the Comrades Marathon, they can still help by donating R20 to PinkDrive by smsing “PINKDRIVE” to 40158.
“The money raised from this campaign will not only be used to keep PinkDrive’s current mobile mammography and educational units on the road, but also to build more mobile units.” – SAnews.gov.za
