#Savewater campaign gaining momentum

Pretoria - The drive to change water use and encourage new and changed behaviour to save water is gaining momentum in Gauteng.

On Thursday, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) and Human Settlements MEC Jacob Mamabolo took to the streets of Emfuleni to engage communities on water preservation and to distribute pamphlets about proper water use.

This blitz follows the successful provincial launch of the #Savewater campaign last week.

Government is on an aggressive drive to ensure that communities change the way they use this scarce and precious resource, particularly in the face of poor rains, very hot conditions and drought.

MEC Mamabolo says as the leadership, they are leading by example and walking the talk.

“As leaders, together with our senior officials and Rand Water, we are throwing our full support behind this campaign, which is why we are going into the communities ourselves to amplify the message that all of us must save water, use it sparingly and adopt new behaviours which will see us prioritising the preservation of this important resource that none of us can live without,” MEC Mamabolo said.

He added that Community Development Workers (CDWs) have been tasked with the day-to-day implementation of the #Savewater campaign.

The day saw the top provincial officials inspecting water leak hotspots, water pollution and visiting high consumption areas around Emfuleni, which includes Bedworth Park. - SAnews.gov.za
