SARS to walk for tax

Tuesday, July 26, 2016

Pretoria - South African Revenue Service (SARS) Commissioner Tom Moyane will lead the revenue service staff on a “Walk for Tax” initiative, in Durban.

The “Walk for Tax” initiative, which will be held at the Durban beach front on Saturday, forms part of a nationwide drive to show the commitment and readiness of SARS staff across the country to provide excellent service to taxpayers.

The Commissioner will hand over the figurative ‘tax-collection baton’ to branches in the region, and raise awareness on Tax Season 2016 that started on 1 July.

“Above all, Walk-for-Tax aims to demonstrate to South Africa that SARS is ready to serve taxpayers during Tax Season and reach new heights with the revenue target of R1.175 trillion,” said Commissioner Moyane on Monday.

The walk is a follow up to a highly successful similar walk-a-thon that took place in Brooklyn, Pretoria, earlier this month.

At the Pretoria walk, SARS employees handed out useful tax information to vendors, informal traders, and the public.

Commissioner Moyane is expected to engage with taxpayers on Saturday.

“Paying tax is cool because it is the highest form of patriotism where individuals and companies make a direct contribution toward the improvement of quality of life for all the citizens of our country. We want to declare in all our ten regions that SARS is at the service of the nation and we encourage everyone to be compliant,” said Commissioner Moyane.

Walk-For-Tax KZN takes place along the Durban promenade (South Beach), starting at 8:30am at UShaka Marine. The gathering point will be outside Wahooz restaurant.
