SAPS top brass to visit Zantsi family in Philippi

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

Pretoria - The Deputy Minister of Police, Maggie Sotyu, with the Western Cape SAPS top brass, will this morning visit the Zantsi family in Philippi township.

The family was planning the funeral of a relative when unknown men shot and killed three other male family members, aged between 23 and 50 years, during a memorial prayer service last Friday.

The family is still in the dark as to why its members were targeted, while police say they are investigating.

There has been no arrest and the motive for the attack is still unclear.

Before meeting with the family, Deputy Minister Sotyu will get a progress report on the criminal case opened on this triple murder.

She said police will not allow heinous criminals to run havoc in communities.

“With a proactive coordinated and precise crime combating strategy, the South African Police Service will continue with the dismantling of the infamous title given to this area as the 'murder capital of South Africa', by ensuring that these hardened criminals are legally wiped out from the streets of our communities, said the deputy minister. - SAnews.gov.za
