Pretoria - The Chief of the SA National Defence Force, General S.Z. Shoke, has ordered that all members return to their units to provide support during the week of national mourning following the passing of late former President Nelson Mandela.

“The leave of members who belong to units of the SANDF that have been identified to provide support during this period, is to be cancelled and they must immediately return to their units, bases or stations.

“This is applicable to all uniform members of the regular force as well as civilians in service of the Department of Defence who are currently absent with leave,” said a statement by the SANDF on Saturday.

The SANDF said the members must report back to their units, bases or stations by at the latest at midnight tonight.

The order excludes those members who are currently on special leave on legal grounds.

“It is requested that family or friends who hear or read this message and who are aware of the whereabouts of such Defence Force members convey this message to them immediately,” said the SANDF. – SAnews.gov.za
