Pretoria – President Jacob Zuma says the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) probe into alleged corruption at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has resulted in 28 criminal cases being referred to the police.

In a written reply to a question asked by the Democratic Alliance, President Zuma said of the 28 cases, nine involved fraud and 19 were for contravening the Contravention of Companies Act of 61 of 1973.

Also, 464 disciplinary cases have been referred to the SABC for recommended action.

President Zuma initiated the investigation into the public broadcaster following reports that implicated at least six former SABC bosses in alleged irregular, fraudulent and corrupt deals at the public broadcaster since 2005.

The allegations included undisclosed or unauthorised conflicts of interest with service providers of the SABC.

The investigation has now been completed and a report has been submitted to the President. – SAnews.gov.za
