Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has extended his condolences to the people of Cameroon following the tragic train accident between Yaounde and Douala.

On Friday, the train derailed leaving 79 people dead and hundreds injured.

The train route was particularly busy after a bridge on the road linking Yaounde and Douala collapsed in heavy rain the night before, paralysing traffic and sending extra waves of travellers onto trains.

“The South African Government extends its most sincere condolences to families of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident,” the Department of International Relations and Cooperation said on Monday.

President Zuma further wished the injured a speedy recovery. – SAnews.gov.za
