Pretoria - South Africa obtained a clean audit report after hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe, said on Thursday.

“When we concluded the FIFA World Cup, we got a clean audit report,” Minister Radebe told the media in response to a question following a post Cabinet media briefing.

This after it was reported on Wednesday that South Africa paid a $10 million bribe to FIFA in order to be awarded the bid to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup. This is according to a year-long US investigation.

Minister Radebe said that auditing firm Ernst and Young is a reputable auditing firm, adding that FIFA President Sepp Blatter  gave South Africa, “I think 8 or 9 out of ten”.

In addition, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula is expected to give a statement on the matter shortly.
