Pretoria – South Africa and Indonesia are set to review the status of their bilateral relations next week when President Jacob Zuma embarks on a state visit to Jakarta.
“Cabinet welcomes President Jacob Zuma’s state visit to Jakarta, Indonesia, from 19 to 21 April, which will review the status of bilateral relations to ensure the realisation of the five-year Plan of Action as discussed by the two sides in Pretoria in November 2014,” said Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe.
Minister Radebe was briefing reporters on Friday following Cabinet’s fortnightly meeting.
Relations between South Africa and Indonesia have come a long way. Indonesia supported South Africa’s anti-apartheid struggle, laying the foundation of good relations between the two countries since the advent of democracy in South Africa in 1994.
Cabinet said President Zuma will also attend the Asia-Africa Summit from 22 to 23 April in Jakarta, which will strengthen South-South cooperation towards socio-economic growth for both regions.
The visit to Indonesia will conclude with the 60th Anniversary of the Bandung Conference of 1955 and the 10th anniversary of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) on 24 April 2015, which will take place in Bandung, West Java. - SAnews.gov.za
