Pretoria-South Africa is to host the 2015 International Federation of Library Association (IFLA) and the World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) in Cape Town.
The gathering has brought more than 4000 library and information professionals worldwide under the theme “Dynamic Libraries: Access, Development and Transformation.”
This is the 3rd Congress to be held on African soil.
The host, Department of Arts and Culture believes that this will impact on the library profession and development of the country and the continent.
The meeting is expected to provide strategic leadership on the current state of libraries and how to build partnerships for the realisation of the United Nations Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals, the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and UNESCO’s role in strengthening education systems for sustainable development in Africa.
“Amongst others objectives, the IFLA Conference will seek to promote high standards of provision and delivery of library and information services as well as to encourage widespread understanding of the value of efficient library & information services,” said the Department of Arts and Culture.
Countries participating include Cape Verde, South Sudan, Nigeria, Madagascar, Swaziland, Lesotho and Namibia.-SAnews.gov.za
