Pretoria - The South African Government has joined the international community in strongly condemning the terrorist attacks that took place on Thursday in the French city of Nice during the Bastille Day celebrations.
The attack resulted in the death of 80 people, including children, and left scores injured.
On behalf of the government and the people of South Africa, President Jacob Zuma has extended his heartfelt condolences to President Francois Hollande, the government and the people of France, in particular the families of the deceased and injured.
"South Africa shares in the grief of the French people and wishes the injured survivors a speedy recovery. Terrorism in any form and from whichever quarter cannot be condoned.
"South Africa stands firmly with the international community in condemning all forms of terrorism and stands in solidarity with the Government of the Republic of France as they mourn the death of their citizens," President Zuma said.
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation's Consular Services division is in contact with the South African Embassy in Paris following the attacks to determine if any South African citizens have been affected.
