SA to celebrate National Environment Month

Pretoria – A number of key environment events are expected to take place in various provinces as South Africa kicks off the National Environment Month celebrations in June.

The celebration of the Environment Month is an annual event on the calendar of South Africa’s environment sector which includes World Environment Day on 5 June.

Other key events celebrated during the month include World Oceans Day on 8 June and World Day to Combat Desertification on 17 June.

The key environment days are aimed at heightening public awareness about the environment while also exposing young people in all the host provinces to opportunities in the sector.

On 5 June 2015, the Department of Environmental Affairs will be leading the World Environment Day event in Kimberley, Northern Cape.

The department will also host the World Oceans Day on 8 June 2015 in Bloemfontein, Free State, with various partners in the implementation of the Operation Phakisa Oceans Economy, where they will be sharing information with local communities about opportunities in the ocean economy and related areas. 

On 17 June 2015, South Africa will celebrate the World Day to Combat Desertification in Nqutu village, KwaZulu-Natal. – SAnews.gov.za
