Pretoria - Cabinet has called on South Africans to join in the celebration of Freedom Month, which ushers in the country’s third decade of freedom.

Briefing reporters at a post Cabinet briefing on Friday, Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe, said Freedom Month celebrations promote human dignity and pursue a common national agenda towards building a united and prosperous South Africa.

The national celebrations will culminate in the celebration of Freedom Day on 27 April.

The celebrations will be under the theme “Celebrating the beginning of the third decade of our freedom through accelerating radical economic transformation”.

“South Africans are also reminded of the many sacrifices made by our compatriots in the fight against the brutal apartheid system so that we can all enjoy the freedom we have today,” said the Minister.

On Freedom Day, President Jacob Zuma will also bestow National Orders at a ceremony at the Union Buildings. This will be in honour of South Africans who contributed to the advancement of South Africa’s democracy.

“Cabinet extends its congratulations to all recipients and expresses its gratitude for their contribution,” said the Minister. – SAnews.gov.za
