Roads agency investigating Randfontein fatal crash

Pretoria- The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is investigating Friday’s fatal accident between a minibus taxi and a truck on the R41 in Randfontein, west of Johannesburg.

In a statement following the collision, Transport Minister Dipuo Peters said the RTMC has been instructed to investigate the collision in which 14 people were killed and two were critically injured.

“Minister Peters instantly enjoined the services of the Road Traffic Management Corporation to commence with investigations into the cause of this gruesome carnage, whilst continuing to attend to the site of the accident,” said the Department of Transport.

In addition, the Road Accident Fund will assist the families of the deceased and will offer the injured the necessary support and comfort in hospital, it said.

The Minister also wished a speedy recovery to those who are in hospital.

Meanwhile, Gauteng Premier David Makhura is today expected to visit the survivors of the accident after which he will visit the families of those who were killed in the crash. SAnews.gov.za
