Public Enterprises takes stock of opportunities for women

Thursday, August 10, 2017

Public Enterprises Deputy Minister Ben Martins will discuss opportunities offered by State-owned companies in the Department of Public Enterprises portfolio at a dinner with businesswomen in Limpopo.

The dinner, which is scheduled to take place at Meropa Casino in Polokwane, is part of the Deputy Minister’s commemoration of Women’s Month.

“The dinner is part of Women’s Month commemoration to present and showcase State-owned companies [SOC] procurement processes and other identified opportunities, with a specific focus on women in business,” said the Ministry of Public Enterprises on Thursday.

SOCs, namely Transnet, Eskom, Denel, South African Express and SAFCOL, will make presentations of business opportunities and areas where women may seek to become key suppliers of products and services in the SOC.

Deputy Minister Martins will host the dinner together with the Limpopo MEC of Economic Development, Seaparo Sekoati.

The dinner aims to raise awareness of SOC supply chain requirements to women and other special groups and to raise any challenges, constraints and ideas to improve the programme supporting SMMEs and cooperatives by state owned companies.

South Africa commemorates Women’s Month as a tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of pass laws to women.

This year, the country pays tribute to women’s contributions to the liberation struggle, while also observing the centenary of struggle icon Oliver Reginald Tambo and his contributions to the struggle to end gender inequalities. - SAnews.gov.za
