Pretoria – South Africa and Sudan have recommitted to elevating the bilateral Joint Co-operation Commission (JCC) to a ministerial level.
The commission will enable the two sides to promote political, economic and social relations.
This recommitment emerged after a meeting between President Jacob Zuma and his counterpart President Omar Al-Bashir on Thursday.
The two met in Beijing, China on the margins of the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese Peoples' War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The Presidency says in the meeting, President Zuma and President Al-Bashir discussed strengthening relations between South Africa and Sudan.
“South Africa seeks to further strengthen cooperation with Sudan in the fields of agriculture, agro-processing, science and technology, energy, infrastructure development, mining and retail,” said the Presidency.
South Africa and Sudan enjoy warm bilateral relations which has seen 16 bilateral agreements between the two sides.
President Zuma also accepted an invitation by President Al-Bashir to visit Sudan. - SAnews.gov.za
