Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has wished his former spokesperson, Mac Maharaj, a speedy recovery after undergoing surgery.

Maharaj, who retired last month after four years in the Presidency, was admitted to a hospital in Durban last Thursday where he underwent surgery for lung cancer.

According to the Presidency, the operation was successful, but complications arose post-operation.

A team of highly competent doctors and staff are focusing on stabilising his condition.

Updates on his medical condition will only be issued when there is significant change.

“We wish this veteran of our struggle all the best as he fights this new battle in his life. We wish him strength and a speedy recovery.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with him and the family,’’ President Zuma said.

The Maharaj family has thanked the media and the public for their support.  – SAnews.gov.za
