President Zuma to visit Kwaggafontein

Tuesday, June 7, 2016

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma will on Friday visit Kwaggafontein in Mpumalanga as part of the Siyahlola Presidential Monitoring Programme.

The presidential monitoring programme is a platform for government leaders to engage directly with community members on challenges of service delivery in their areas.

On Friday, the President will engage with residents of Kwaggafontein, which is in the Thembisile Hani Local Municipality, with the objective of speeding up service delivery.

Ahead of the 2016 State of the Nation Address in February, President Zuma undertook a walkabout in Marabastad in the Pretoria CBD where he was alerted by commuters about service delivery issues specifically affecting Kwaggafontein and its surrounding villages.

In the State of the Nation Address on 11 February 2016, President Zuma committed to visit the area.

“The visit will form part of the Back to Basics 10-Point Local Government Revitalisation Plan, which was launched in 2014, led by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

“The plan fundamentally promotes community engagement, which is critical to enable communities to provide feedback on their experience of local government,” said the President.

During the visit, President Zuma will assess three projects that the Thembisile Hani Local Municipality is rolling out to residents to improve their livelihoods.

Later in the afternoon, President Zuma, supported by national, provincial and local government leaders, will report back to the community on his monitoring visit. - SAnews.gov.za
