Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has sent his condolences on the passing of Limpopo Education MEC Thembi Nwendamutswu and ANC veteran Nelson Diale.

Nwendamutswu died in a private hospital in Pretoria on Friday, while Diale died in Jane Furse, Limpopo.

Nwendamutswu was CEO of the Independent Development Trust and the treasurer of the African National Congress in Limpopo before she was appointed to the education portfolio following last year's general elections where she served for seven months.

President Zuma described her as a passionate community worker and social development activist.

Daile was a stalwart of the liberation struggle, a former Member of Parliament and a recipient of the National Order of Luthuli.

"On behalf of government and all the people of South Africa, I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the Premier of Limpopo Province and the entire provincial government on losing such outstanding leaders.

“It is very sad that we lost two leaders of this calibre on the same day as it has happened in Limpopo. May their souls rest in peace,” said President Zuma said on Tuesday. – SAnews.gov.za
