Presidency rejects statements by Marikana attorney

Monday, May 25, 2015

Pretoria - The Presidency has rejected false statements made by Marikana defence attorney, Andries Nkome, at the weekend in relation to the provincial and national police commissioners.

This after Nkome linked President Jacob Zuma to the reported retirement of the North West Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Zukiswa Mbobo.

“The President does not manage the careers of provincial police commissioners, and as such, has nothing to do with the reported retirement,” the Presidency said on Monday.

It said linking the President to this matter and insinuating that it could be linked to the processing of the Marikana report by the President is malicious and mischievous.

The Presidency said Nkome also repeated the already refuted allegations that President Zuma has met the National Police Commissioner Ria Phiyega and discussed an alternative deployment for her.

“Reports of the said meeting and alleged discussions are a complete fabrication and have been refuted by the Presidency. Anyone who repeats these allegations is perpetuating a lie,” said the Presidency. - SAnews.gov.za
