Pretoria - The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the XIV World Forestry Congress (WFC) has concluded its fourth preparatory meeting on Friday.

The WFC, which is hosted by South Africa jointly with the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), will take place in September 2015, at the Durban ICC.

The WFC LOC announced that preparations for the global event are well underway and that a professional conference organiser, African Agenda, has been appointed to manage the logistical arrangements of the conference.

Trevor Abrahams, who has been appointed as Secretary General of the World Forest Conference, will be responsible for the overall coordination of the conference and liaison with FAO.

The Food and Agricultural Organization is currently finalising the selection of technical papers from submissions received from around the world, which will form the core of the conference proceedings.

“This conference will provide a platform for deliberating critical issues facing the sector of our economy as well as providing South Africa with a valuable opportunity to showcase our big event capabilities.

“The WFC LOC will be meeting on a monthly basis in the run-up to the conference in September and will be supported by a project management team to ensure we host this event to the standards for which South Africa has become well known for,” said Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries spokesperson Piwe Mbiko. – SAnews.gov.za
