Power system to remain tight into weekend: Eskom

Friday, March 6, 2015

Pretoria - The power system will remain constrained going into the weekend, Eskom says.

“The forecast for the weekend and the coming week indicates that the system will remain extremely constrained. Any extra load or faults in the system may necessitate the need to go into load shedding,” said the utility in its system status bulletin on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the utility continues to make progress with its programme of planned maintenance but the system remains tight.

The capacity available to meet demand depends on the number of generating units that are on planned maintenance.

“We urge all South Africans to partner with us to save 10% of their electricity usage throughout the day. This will make it significantly easier to manage the power system during this challenging time, while also enabling us to do planned maintenance to ensure the reliability of our plant,” said Eskom. - SAnews.gov.za
