Pretoria - Police have launched a manhunt for about 10 suspects who shot and wounded elderly people and two security guards during a cash heist at the Soshanguve Mall, north of Pretoria on Wednesday morning.

Nine elderly bystanders and two security guards were shot and wounded during the cash heist.

Police believe the group of suspects confronted Fidelity Security Services guards who were transporting money to a pension point.

“The suspects fired shots randomly and managed to take a box with an undisclosed amount of cash. In the process, elderly citizens, two men and seven women, were shot and wounded. Two guards were also wounded,” Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money and abandoned a BMW vehicle before they fled the scene in unknown vehicles.

The victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
