Pistorius to know his fate

Pretoria - Judge Thokozile Masipa will this morning continue to read her judgment in the Oscar Pistorius trial in the North Gauteng High Court.

Masipa started delivering the judgment on Thursday, where she ruled out the convictions of murder and attempted murder.

The judge indicated that the State had failed to prove that Pistorius intended to murder his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day last year.

Mapisa’s decision has sparked debate around the country, with legal experts questioning if her decision to find Pistorius not guilty of murder is correct.

Some law experts have predicted that Mapisa’s decision has created the grounds for the State to appeal her judgment. This is because Mapisa agreed that Pistorius armed himself before firing the four shots at the person behind the closed bathroom door.

This morning, Mapisa will address three additional charges relating to the incident, which include the unlawful possession of ammunition and contraventions of the Firearms Control Act.

Court proceedings will resume at 9:30am.

Speculation is rife, with experts suggesting that the judge might find Pistorius guilty of culpable homicide.

In its case, the State had argued that Pistorius and Steenkamp fought during the night before he fatally shot her through a locked toilet door.

The defence team has, on the other hand, said that Pistorius mistook her for an intruder.
