Petrol price to rise by 45 cents

Friday, October 28, 2016

Pretoria - The price of all grades of petrol will rise by 45 cents a litre as of next Wednesday.

Releasing the petrol price on Friday, the Department of Energy said both grades of petrol (93 and 95 ULP and LRP) will increase by 45 cents.

Both grades of diesel (0.05% and 0.005% sulphur) will increase by 63 cents while illuminating paraffin (wholesale) will increase by 57 cents a litre.

Illuminating paraffin (SMNRP) will increase by 76 cents per litre while the maximum retail price for LPGAS will increase by 59 cents per kilogram.

The increase follows an increase in October. A litre of 95 ULP will cost motorists R13.05 in Gauteng as of next month.

The department said the main reasons for the fuel price adjustments were, among others, due to the contribution of the Rand/US Dollar exchange rate.

“The Rand strengthened slightly against the US Dollar from R14.00 to R13.99, on average, during the period under review when compared to the previous one,” said the department.

There were also increases in the prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin, on average, in the international markets during the period under review. – SAnews.gov.za
