Oscar Pistorius back in court

Monday, April 18, 2016

Pretoria - Convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius will this morning make a brief appearance in the High Court in Pretoria.

The court is expected to formally postpone his sentencing hearing until June when arguments on the length of his sentence will begin.

This morning’s appearance is the first in public since the Constitutional Court dismissed his leave to appeal his murder conviction. He is currently serving the remainder of his initial conviction under correctional supervision.

Pistorius was granted R10 000 bail after the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned his culpable homicide conviction and replaced it with murder.

The former athlete has already served a year in prison after Judge Thokozile Masipa handed him a five-year sentence for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013.

Sentencing proceedings have been set for June 13 - 17. – SAnews.gov.za
