Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has declared a special provincial official funeral for anti-apartheid struggle veteran William Mlamli Ondala.

This category of a funeral is designated by the President of the Republic of South Africa for distinguished persons.

“We have lost a fierce political activist who joined the struggle from a very young age and who immersed himself in the struggles of his people to attain freedom and against the exploitation and killing of black farm workers.

“We wish to extend our deepest condolences to the Ondala family. May his soul rest in peace,” President Zuma said.

The President has instructed that the National Flag be flown at half-mast at every flag station in the Eastern Cape Province on Sunday, the day of his funeral.
