Pretoria - The North West Tourism Department has welcomed the Auditor General’s unqualified 2014/15 report released recently.

The North West MEC for Tourism, Desbo Mohono, has congratulated the department’s officials for the positive move.

MEC Mohono appealed for improvement and hard work for the 2015/16 audit report.

She encouraged the officials in her department to adopt a winning culture which will ensure compliance and adherence to legislation governing the public service.

“The report simply says we are doing something right. I therefore appeal to you to keep the spirit and ensure compliance as you work towards delivering services to the North West, the country and the international community.

“More importantly we should pay attention to recommendations and make sure that we become a better department,” said MEC Mohono.

From the planning side, the department has resolved to make sure that its programmes will be driven in a smart and strategic way that will positively grow the provincial economy by 6% and further place the department on the forth position as the most preferred tourism destination by the year 2020.

The department has vowed to carry policy announcements by Premier Supra Mahumapelo to support and grow the villages, townships and small dorpies economy, create more jobs and develop skills in the hospitality industry for young people of the province.

The department also recommitted to making sure that it implements its three adopted strategies which are events, tourism sector and heritage strategies and also develop skills among young people within the province. – SAnews.gov.za
