Pretoria - Home Affairs is to unveil a system today to help facilitate the secure movement of people in and out of the country in preparation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Known as the Movement Control System (MCS), it will assist in law enforcement as well as the prevention of criminal and illicit activities.

"Using a central database, the MCS will also act as an early warning system for the relevant government agencies to track visitors who overstay in the country following the World Cup," said the Department of Home Affairs on Wednesday.

Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will introduce the system at OR Tambo International Airport, where it has been successfully piloted.

The MSC is being piloted in conjunction with the Department of International Relations and Co-operation, South African Police Service, SARS and Home Affairs and will be rolled out at 34 priority ports of entry in the country.

The system is part of a series of other interventions that the department will be implementing to facilitate the movement of the multitudes of soccer fans expected into the country for the first ever FIFA World Cup on the African continent.
