New SAHRC commissioners appointed

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has appointed new full time commissioners to the South African Human Rights Commission.

The appointments are effective for a period of seven years from 3 January 2017.

Professor Bongani Christopher Majola was appointed as Chairperson of the South African Rights Commission and Devikarani Priscilla Sewpal Jana as Deputy Chairperson.

The other newly appointed commissioners are Advocate Andrew Hurtley Gaum; Matlhodi Angelina Makwetla and Advocate Joseph Bokankatla Malatji.

Andrew Christoffel Nissen and Jonas Sibanyoni were appointed as part-time commissioners.

President Zuma wished the new commissioners all the best in their new important responsibility of entrenching constitutional democracy through advocating and protecting the basic human rights of all South Africans.

The President also wished the outgoing commissioners all the best in their future endeavours.  – SAnews.gov.za
