NDA to launch Adopt-an-ECD campaign

Wednesday, July 9, 2014

Pretoria – The National Development Agency (NDA) will on Thursday launch an online portal to create awareness and raise funds for underprivileged Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres.

The Adopt-an-ECD campaign, to be launched during a briefing in Polokwane, seeks to increase resource flows into identified ECD centres by getting society, government and business to help provide for the needs of ECD centres in all nine provinces.

The NDA hopes to raise funds or pledges to the value of R500 000 on the day of the launch.

NDA spokesperson Lesego Ranchu said the funds raised will be used to respond to the needs identified by the various profiled ECDs.

The ECD centres are profiled by location and individual needs are listed and quantified.

“The items vary from educational toys and materials, office equipment, mattresses, food gardens and so on,” Ranchu said.

To date, the campaign has raised R210 000 from MSW Engineering & Project Management Consultants, the South African National Energy Development Institute (Sanedi) in Limpopo and additional pledges are expected to be made at the briefing on Thursday.

The portal is available on www.ndacampaigns.co.za.

Organisations and individuals are able to register and make a financial donation to the ECD centre of their choice.

Among the dignitaries who will attend the launch are Limpopo MEC for Social Development, Joyce Mashaba, Polokwane mayor Thembi Nkadimeng, and   Capricorn District mayor Gilbert Kganyago, NDA officials and representatives from the private and public sector.

A visit to Moloisi Day Care Centre in Nobody has also been scheduled to take place after the launch. – SAnews.gov.za
