Pretoria - The Department of Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development’s Kgora Farmer Training Centre will donate fresh vegetables once a week to local based care centres in the North West.

The Kgora Farmer Training Centre trains farmers to acquire the knowledge and skills in the practices of farming.

Training at the centre includes excursions, demonstrations, up to credit bearing unit standards to address knowledge and skills gaps on arable farming and livestock husbandry as well as on organisational, marketing and financial management.

One of the beneficiaries of the Setsokotsane Programme, Jacqueline Modieginyana, said the commitment by the provincial government in the fight against hunger would go a long way in addressing food security among rural families. The Setsokotsane programme seeks to address poverty and the delivery of services.

“We will once every week collect bags of vegetables such as spinach, cabbage, onions, carrots and others, and this will improve the quality of health of the children and families we are looking after,” said Modieginyana.

Modieginyana manages the Mmangwana Day Care and feeding scheme. Other beneficiaries of the programme include the Bogosi Foundation Home Based Care in Molelwane village and the Disaneng Home Based Care centre. – SAnews.gov.za
