Pretoria – The Mpumalanga Department of Education has taken steps to assist grade 12 learners prepare for their 2014 final examinations.

The department partnered with national and local radio stations to dedicate special programmes to learners on Thursday afternoons.

“We would like to urge all our learners to also take advantage of the intervention programmes put in place by the department, together with its partners. These programmes have been initiated to help the learners who may experience challenges during their studies,” said MEC Reginah Mhaule.

She was speaking on Monday, 69 days before grade 12 learners sit for final examinations.

The radio stations will have special programmes for grade 12 learners on Thursday afternoons, including Ikwekwezi FM, Ligwalagwala FM, BCR, K Radio, Radio Bushbuckridge, Nkomazi Community Radio, Emalahleni Community Radio, Greater Middleburg Community Radio, Moutse Community Radio and Nkangala Community Radio.

“The Department has also established the dial-a-tutor programme which allows learners to interact with curriculum implementers during their studies, linking learners with various curriculum specialists by dialling 087 805 1350 during the radio programmes,” the department said.

“The system hangs up and automatically calls back the number whereby the learner is then directed to the correct curriculum specialist,” the department said.

The department added that a text-a-tutor programme will also be introduced, as of beginning October to further assist learners.

“I would like to also encourage all our schools to participate in the morning, afternoon and Saturday classes as this will give the learners enough time to cover all their work, and do revisions with the assistance of their educators and fellow learners,” said the MEC. - SAnews.gov.za
