Minister to unpack Defence Review

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Pretoria – Defence and Military Veterans Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula will on Wednesday unpack the Defence Review in a conversation with members of the media in association with the Johannesburg Press Club and Wits Business School.

In March, Cabinet approved the South African Defence Force Review 2014, and directed for it to be tabled in Parliament.

The Review provides a long-term defence policy and defence strategic direction to be followed by the country over the next four Medium Term Strategic Framework periods.

The objective of the Defence Review is to create a balanced, flexible and modern force that uses advanced technology in response to the changing nature of the defence function globally.

Minister Mapisa-Nqakula will discuss the outcomes of the Defence Review 2014 and further deliberate on the key issues that are fundamental to understanding the review.

“Undoubtedly, the first comprehensive review of the state of our armed forces in over 18 years, the latest review provides a blueprint for the baseline design that will steer the Defence Force through the next 20 to 30 years, taking into account the country's defence capabilities,” the department said in a statement. – SAnews.gov.za
