Minister takes DTT awareness campaign to Ratanda

Pretoria - South Africa’s migrating from the analogue broadcasting format to a digital broadcasting system will be top of the agenda during Communications Minister, Faith Muthambi’s, Imbizo in Ratanda, south of Heidelberg on Friday.

Minister Muthambi will hold a community Imbizo at the Multi-Purpose Centre as part of her Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) awareness campaign, held under the theme: Youth-Our History, Our future”.

The main reason for the migration to digital broadcasting is to release valuable spectrum, which can be used for other services. Spectrum is scarce and it is therefore necessary to make efficient use of the spectrum available for more telecommunications and broadcasting services.

Minister Muthambi said there have been massive social and economic changes over the past 21 years, income and employment levels have increased, education levels are up and many millions of people now have access to water, electricity, sanitation and housing.

“We have succeeded in building a nation from the ashes of apartheid. We are fortunate to live in a society where all South Africans can prosper and thrive.

“Together we can ensure that young people share in our economic development and prosperity,” said the Minister.

She said South Africa is recognised for its commitment to democracy, equality and freedom for all. - SAnews.gov.za
